What Drives the Price of a Pink Beach Charter

Two boats leaving the same jetty on the same morning can cost very differently, and the gap is rarely about the beach. It is about the hull, the hours, the drive to the jetty and how many people split the bill. Here is what each of those is worth — and where to find the figures themselves.

Quick Answer

A charter to Pantai Tangsi is priced on four things: the boat you hire, how long you keep it, how far you travel by road to reach it, and how many people share the cost. Nothing on this page is a quote — the bookable prices, with their source and date, are gathered on the prices page.

  • Boat class and hours account for most of the difference.
  • Road transfer to the jetty is a separate item, and often the longest one.
  • A charter is priced per boat, so the per-head cost falls as the group grows.
A traditional jukung off Pink Beach

Why access is by charter at all

Pink Beach Lombok Island, known locally as Pantai Tangsi, has no scheduled service. Reaching it means hiring a boat, and that single fact sets the shape of every budget for the day. Departures run from the Sekotong peninsula in the west or Tanjung Luar in the east, each with its own drive and its own crossing.

A standard charter vessel is a traditional outrigger, a jukung, roughly eight to ten metres long and comfortable for four to six passengers. A half day runs about four to five hours; a full day, seven to eight. Fuel sits inside the charter fee rather than beside it, which matters more than it sounds — the distances between Tangsi and the islets around it, Gili Petelu and Gili Pasir among them, are what the engine actually spends.

What separates one charter tier from the next

Operators generally work in three tiers. They differ less in where you go than in what carries you there and what is waiting on board.

Standard

A traditional jukung with a skipper, drinking water, and the run to the beach and the nearest snorkelling stops. The crossing from Sekotong takes around an hour and a half. This is the tier most day visitors take.

Premium

A larger hull, often ten to twelve metres, with more deck space to spread out on and a fuller set of inclusions. The route is much the same; the day is more comfortable and less crowded.

Luxury

Modern speedboats that cut the crossing substantially, with a bespoke itinerary rather than a fixed one. What you are buying at this tier is mostly time — less of the day spent getting there, more of it spent at anchor.

Costs that sit alongside the charter

Beyond the boat: the costs that sit alongside it

The charter is one line in the day, not the whole of it.

Road transfer

A private car from Kuta Lombok to the Sekotong departure point takes roughly an hour and a half to two hours each way. From Senggigi it is longer, two and a half to three hours, and priced accordingly. This is usually the second largest item after the boat, and the one most often forgotten when people compare quotes.

Crew gratuity

Tipping the skipper and crew is customary and genuinely appreciated. Operators will tell you what is normal for the length of charter you have taken.

Catering

Standard packed meals come with most charters. Anything beyond that — a custom menu, a seafood barbecue on a quiet stretch of sand — is arranged and charged separately.

Where customising adds to the day

Almost anything can be arranged; each of them lengthens either the hours or the list.

Staying out past the standard seven or eight hours is charged by the hour, and the rate follows the boat size and its fuel consumption. Adding southern beaches to the drive home keeps the driver on for another three or four hours. Departing from Tanjung Luar rather than Sekotong changes the fuel arithmetic, since the beach lies about forty-five minutes west of it by boat.

Occasion requests follow the same logic. A private beach picnic set up for an anniversary, or a drone operator brought along to film the sand from above, are each quoted on their own terms — sensible things to ask about at enquiry rather than discover at settlement.

Group size and per-person cost

How group size changes the arithmetic

A charter is hired by the boat, not by the head. That single convention does more to the per-person figure than any tier ever will.

Couples

Two people on a full-day jukung are paying for a boat built for six, which is why a charter reads as an indulgence for a honeymoon. What it buys is an empty deck and a schedule nobody else votes on.

Families

Four people on the same hull halve the per-head figure against a couple, and a premium boat starts to compare well with buying individual tour seats.

Small groups

Six on a full-day charter is where the per-person cost falls furthest. Beyond that you are into a second boat rather than a better rate, so six is usually the efficient ceiling for a single vessel.

Booking, deposits and cancellation

Charters are typically held with a deposit at booking and the balance settled before departure. Book one to two weeks ahead, and further out for peak season — July and August, then December and January — when the better boats and the more experienced skippers go first.

Card payment is usually accepted, sometimes with a processing fee; ask before you pay rather than after. Cancellation terms vary by operator, but the common shape is a full refund several days out, tapering to a partial refund or a rebooking credit as the departure approaches. Get the terms in writing at the point you pay the deposit.

At a glance
  • Biggest single driver boat class and the number of hours you keep it.
  • Most overlooked item the road transfer to the jetty, which can run two to three hours each way.
  • Pricing basis per boat, not per person — the group splits one figure.
  • Book ahead 1–2 weeks normally; longer for July–August and December–January.
  • Figures published on the prices page, with source and date.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why does this page not quote charter rates?

Because we would be quoting for boats we do not operate. Local charter rates in Sekotong and Tanjung Luar are agreed between you and the skipper and are not published anywhere we can cite. What we can publish are the prices of the packages our booking partner actually sells, and those are on the prices page.

Is a half-day charter enough for Pink Beach?

It reaches the beach and one snorkelling stop, which is enough if the beach itself is the point. A full day is what you want if you also intend to visit Gili Petelu or Gili Pasir, since the extra hours are mostly spent on the water between them.

Does a bigger group get a cheaper boat?

Not a cheaper boat — a cheaper share of it. The charter fee is for the vessel, so six people pay the same total as two and each pays a third as much. Past six you are generally hiring a second boat rather than negotiating a better rate.

Should I depart from Sekotong or Tanjung Luar?

It depends where you are staying. Sekotong suits a base in the west, around Senggigi or Mataram; Tanjung Luar suits the east and the south coast. The beach sits between them, so the choice is about your drive, not about the boat.

Every price sits on one page

Rather than scatter figures through the writing, this site keeps them together in one table — with the package each belongs to, the source it came from, and the date it was last checked.
